100 questions for webmasters! ଘ(੭◌ˊᵕˋ)੭* ੈ♡‧₊˚

Hello world!

Welcome to my first blog post ⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂)⸝♡ I thought it would be fun introduction (and an easier start) to answer 100 questions for webmasters!

1. Please introduce yourself.

Hi I'm Lily from Malaysia! I'm a graphic designer & illustrator currently based in Naarm (Melbourne), Australia. This is my daughter Sylveon, say hi! <3

Sylveon

2. How long have you been making websites?

I guess I started back when Tumblr & Neopets were active ~2014? My learning was expedited because I was also coding a website from scratch for a school assignment around the same time. I've taken lots of breaks since then though, I only got back into it in July this year. X_X

3. And what got you into the hobby?

The loneliness & mental illness that drives every young troubled teen to Tumblr. I've also always had an affinity with technology.

4. What kind of website are you most interested in?

The personal kind that's filled to the brim with love and personality. The goal is for my site to grow into a place so magical and full of secrets that it inspires others to create in their own way.

5. What's your workflow? Do you plan your websites out thoroughly or do you come up with the design as you go along?

I pretty much wing everything! Zero planning here unfortunately.

cinni.net, how soon is now?, goooby, sealshore, taami, doqmeat

7. What's your favourite part about making websites?

Thinking, "hey it would be cool if i made this thing" and then actually being able to make it and publish it for the indie web to see!

8. And the thing you struggle with the most?

Sometimes I simply can't lock in and my code just looks like gobbledygook... like what even is a div...

9. Do you keep the same layout on all of your pages? Or do you use different ones?

I try to switch it up for my shrines!

10. How confident are you with CSS?

Not very much at all!

11. Do you know how to correctly use <dl>?

I had to look it up, now I do.

12. What is your favourite HTML element?

The humble <img>. I would be nothing without it.

13. If you're making a new web page from scratch, what is the first thing you do?

Look for graphics and set up the layout first.

14. Do you know JavaScript?

Nope! It scares me. <3

15. How about PHP?

No, I'm a webapprentice.

16. Does your website have a theme that you stick to?

The theme is everything I think is cute/cool/funny. Also kind of a waterlily pond theme but I could (and should) lean into it more.

17. Are you more focused on content or design?

...Design... I'm a designer...

18. Do you own a domain name? If not, would you ever want to?

I do for my portfolio site: glowraiser.xyz but not for my personal site!

19. What do you think of nostalgia-focused or "retro" websites?

I ADORE them. Melonking is one of my favourites.

20. Is your HTML valid? Do you even check?

Nope. :3

21. What are your opinion on buttons and banners?

Love them, I need to make more for my site.

22. What do you think of button walls in particular?

Obsessed with them, I love graphics pages and intend on making one myself soon.

23. If you started over again, would you make something similar or completely different?

Something similar because my current site feels very true to me right now.

24. Are you envious of other people's websites?

No not envious, I think more inspired/mindblown usually.

25. What text editor do you use?

VS Code.

26. Why do you use that one?

I like the themes & extensions, and I'd often seen many other webmasters mention it.

27. Do you host your image files on your web server, or on another host?

Mainly on my web server (Nekoweb), but I also host some on catbox.moe.

28. This might not be relevant to you, but what's your opinion on the Neocities vs. Nekoweb debate?

I picked Nekoweb purely because I love cats and think it's a cuter url!

29. How much server space would you estimate your main website takes up?

50mb?

30. Do you keep local backups of your files?

Of course!

31. Do you prefer simple or highly visual websites?

Highly visual, but I can also appreciate minimalistic sites. :3

32. Do you stick to certain colours? Do you do that on purpose, or is it your subconscious?

Pink & green, they're my favourite colours! 🪷

33. Have you ever thought about quitting? Why?

No, I don't think I will. Taking breaks and stepping back momentarily from a project is usually enough to get me through a rut.

34. Do you have many webmaster friends, or is it a solitary hobby?

It's currently a solitary hobby :( I think I need more content before I advertise my site even more publicly. Maybe one day I'll chat in the discord server... (*ᴗ͈ˬᴗ͈)♡

35. Do people in your real life know about your website?

A few, yes! ✿

36. Do you update your website very often? How often is "very often"?

Yeah recently every day... it's my current hyperfixation. ദ്ദി( • ᴗ < )♡

37. And the overall design, do you change that much? Why or why not?

Not really! I think I nailed the design of my index pretty early on and I haven't gotten sick of it yet.

38. Is your website more you-focused, hobby-focused, or outside world-focused?

Me & hobby-focused. ☆

39. Do you do web design professionally?

No I don't think I would want to. ♡⸜(ˆᗜˆ˵ )⸝♡

40. If not, would you like to? And if you're comfortable answering, what do you do for work?

Oh well there we go lol! I graphic design & illustrate (best job ever)!

41. Do you communicate with people by email very much?

Not much at all, only to join webrings/cliques/fanlistings.

42. Some people reject social media and use websites as a replacement. Do you keep social media outside of your website?

I do but I'm not very active at all besides my close friends stories on instagram. ₍^. .^₎Ⳋ

Discord & whatsapp for my family groupchats. ໒꒰ྀིᵔ ᵕ ᵔ ꒱ྀི১

Whatever I'm into at the moment, which tends to be very upbeat music (Charli xcx, Dominic Fike, Cat & Calmell).

45. Do you keep everything you make on one website, or do you have more than one?

I have a personal site & a portfolio site.

Many many topics, I have a vast range of interests and intend on sharing them all eventually.

51. What about under-utilised practices, or things you think people should do more?

52. Do you use a lot of semantic HTML? Or are you guilty of generic structure?

I use a lot of generic HTML alongside some semantic HTML.

53. Do you consider different browsers?

Nope.

54. Speaking of, what's your preferred browser? Convince your readers why they should use it.

Firefox. It has uBlockOrigin, better privacy controls & runs smoother than Chrome.

55. And what OS are you on?

MacOS.

56. Do you have a strong opinion on that, or do you just happen to use it?

60. Do you have any web shrines? What do you like to see in that sort of page?

Use w3schools & don't be afraid to fail!

74. Would you consider yourself a beginner? Or advanced? Somewhere in the middle?

I think I've regressed to a beginner.

75. Do you have a habit of looking at the source code of websites you visit?

Anything! I would be happy with any sort of positive reception & feedback. ( ˶˘ ³˘)♡

I believe Nekoweb is a static site generator!

Not regarding my site, no! But I definitely have for my older artworks.

I would leave it an archive, I intend for this website to be here before and after me.

97. Do you reveal a lot about yourself on your website? Or are you more secretive?

I think I've been quite secretive so far but that's only because I haven't gotten around to writing the content yet. I've been soo locked in designing graphics! ヾ(。✪ω✪。)シ

98. Are you willing to reveal who your best online friend is, and/or if they have a website?

It was fun! I realise that I know very, very little about webdev lol.
